The future of energy communities in Europe, citizen-centred energy transition, and the role of local implementation in shaping energy policy will be discussed on 8 June 2026 in Brussels as part of ICLEI Europe’s Breakfast@Sustainability event.
The event, organised in collaboration with ECHO, ENPOWER, Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy Europe and Fast & Fair Renewables & Grids, will also contribute to policy discussions ahead of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW 2026), providing a key platform for shaping the future of Europe’s energy transition.
The morning session will focus on the policy dialogue titled: “More Energy Communities for Less EU Fossil Dependency: What Needs to Change in Policy, Markets and Local Implementation?” This session will explore implementation gaps in scaling up energy communities, drawing on practical insights from the ENPOWER and ECHO projects. It will highlight how digital tools, social engagement strategies, and local implementation experiences can inform and improve policy frameworks.
The afternoon session will present the results of the ENPOWER Project, showcasing outcomes from approximately three years of implementation across six pilot sites. Key findings will include developed digital solutions, strategies for activating citizen participation in the energy system, strengthening local trust, and advancing data-driven energy communities.
Held at Silversquare Europe – Parliament Room in Brussels, the hybrid event will bring together policymakers, energy experts, practitioners, and project representatives.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is required by 29 May 2026.
